As close to the water as you can be without getting your feet wet, the Wharf is perfect for a special, romantic escape. Our beautiful bolthole is located in the heart of Mousehole, on the south coast of Cornwall, one of Britain’s most beautiful and unspoilt coastal villages. Dylan Thomas famously declared it “the loveliest village in England” and who are we to disagree.
Small and friendly, Mousehole is arranged around an almost-circular harbour that’s protected from the force of the Atlantic by two sturdy breakwaters. Its narrow, winding streets are dotted with boutiques, galleries, cafés and restaurants, and each twist and turn reveals a new sea view or a secret cobbled alleyway.
Perched on the waters edge of the historic Wharf you will have without a shadow of a doubt one of Cornwall’s best views from its sash windows – out over the fishing boats bobbing in the harbour and, on a clear day, across the mouth of Mount’s Bay with the beautiful St Michael’s Mount to the headlands of the Lizard Peninsula.
Come in winter and you’ll have prized front-row seats for the spectacular storms that batter the harbour wall, while you cosy up inside to the crackle of the wood-burning stove.
The Wharf is perfectly placed to explore the outstanding natural beauty of West Cornwall a landscape made up of wild, gorse-covered moorland, jagged cliffs, granite antiquities, big sandy beaches and hidden coves – a source of inspiration to the many artists and artisans that live here.
There’s plenty to see and do within easy reach of Mousehole – whether it’s exploring the countries finest beaches, visiting local farmers’ markets, cafés and gastropubs, walking the spectacular coastal footpath, learning to surf, nosing around art galleries, touring the many ancient sites that dot the landscape, or visiting the lush, green tropical gardens that flourish in our local microclimate.
When you book with us, we’ll send you a copy of The Guide, our bespoke insider’s guide to Cornwall, to help you navigate the area. It’s packed with all our favourite restaurants, beaches, pubs and galleries to help you make the most of your stay.
